I appreciated the loving tribute Elder Holland just gave to all mothers, and in particular to our Heavenly Mother. In the wake of that talk, I’m reposting[1] some of the quotes on Heavenly Mother collected in Paulsen’s & Pulido’s BYU Studies article, “A Mother There.” [2] It’s a valuable resource to actually have before us a sampling of what church authorities have said over the years, and is one way to express the love and gratitude in my own heart.

Hearing more about Heavenly Mother is always a treat. Fortunately, she to be coming out of hiding. The Paulson and Pulido article was excellent. Is the original revelation of a “heavenly mother” from 1845 poem by Eliza Snow, “My Father in Heaven”?
Multiple sources link it to Joseph’s teachings during the Nauvoo period, though it doesn’t show up in his actual writings. It was being actively discussed, however by the time Eliza codified it in her poem. In this sense it’s analogous to Lorenzo Snows famous couplet about the relations between God and us as Gods children.
