So now I’m wondering, Nate — if you had let Heather do all the hard work on your contract-theory paper, would it have turned out this cute, too? :)
Congratulations, Omans.
Hooray!
The Omans are a blessed family; first William and Mary, now Elizabeth Rose.
Here is the etymology of your daughter’s name:
From Ελισαβετ (Elisabet), the Greek form of the Hebrew name ×ֱלִיש×ֶבַע (‘Elisheva’) meaning “my God is an oath” or perhaps “my God is abundance”. In the Old Testament Elisheba is the wife of Aaron. In the New Testament Elizabeth is the mother of John the Baptist.
Rose of course comes from the Latin rosa and means, well, “rose.”
Kevin, how did you do that?
Her great grandmother and great great grandmother (my mom and grandmother) were named Rose. Elizabeth is a family name on my dad’s side, and the middle-name of Nate’s sister. But I suspect this isn’t all about me. She’s lovely.
From one of the pack of proud grandmas!
Julie, that was a cut and paste from an online etymological dictionary. The fonts survived the cut and paste.
Gotta love that standard baby hat. At least when they come into the world they all start with the same fashion these days. She is a cutie!
She makes that standard baby hat look good. Congratulations to the Omans!
Congrats. She’s a cutieee! A gorgeous name!
My daughter is Elizabeth too, so not only do I love the name, but I love Kevin’s info too. Oh my, you are so lucky! Yay!
Nate, you once said, tongue in cheek, that you regard children primarily as a vehicle for tax planning. She is a sweet deduction, and it is very good news that she is here and all is well.
Congratulations! And what a classic, feminine name you have chosen–I love it! And she is waaaayyyyy cute — be sure to post more pictures as she grows!
Congrats on a beautiful baby. What a blessing.
Beautiful name!
Congratulations! She’s beautiful. Daughters are the best.
Congratulations! And my sympathy for the long labor—yikes! Speaking of which, extrapolating backward…. were you blogging yesterday DURING LABOR?
Congrats!
The safe birth of a beautiful grandchild by a courageous mother has been an answer many prayers. We are absolutely delighted and grateful.
