Bloggernacle Party: Washington DC

I’m hosting a bloggernacle party this Friday night to coincide with the Joseph Smith conference at the Library of Congress. All bloggern are welcome.

We’ll probably start around 7:00 pm, for those not attending Session 3, and go until the Holy Ghost goes to bed (is that midnight? or midnight Mountain Time?). We live near the Shady Grove metro stop on the Red Line, and will be happy to shuttle people back and forth. Our address is 15915 Yukon Lane, Rockville, MD, and our phone number is 301-330-5905.

Please RSVP, and feel free to make arrangements for the party or conference, in the comments. Hope to see lots of you there!

  1. My wife and I will be there. ( Consider this the RSVP). What would you like us to bring?

  2. Thanks, Matt. I may be able to stop by. How do we get to your house from the Shady Grove stop? Do you want to give directions here or would you prefer a phone call.

  3. Matt, you say that all bloggers are welcome, you request an RSVP from that those who will come, and then you post the RSVP thread on the blog with the most aggressive policy for banning commenters in the bloggernacle. What are you trying to say here? I’m not great at picking up hints, so if you’d rather I didn’t come, you should just say so.

As it is, I’m forced to remain incognito—much like the rest of the super-hero pantheon. If I could reveal my true identity, I would RSVP. I guess I’ll just be crashing this party.

  4. Eminent Mormon, I hope you’ll come to the party. I didn’t stop to think that asking for an RSVP at T&S would prove problematic for Ed Enochs, Dr. Shades, and other rascally characters like that Arturo guy.

I’m really hoping Ed Enochs will come. Ed, if you’re out there, please email me your RSVP. My wife really, really doesn’t want me to accept your invitation to a duel (not because she worries that I’d die but because she doesn’t want me to hurt anyone), so maybe you’d be satisfied with a best-of-seven match of Connect Four? Battleship?

  5. Matt, send me a plane ticket, and I’ll be there.

In the alternative …. I will definitely be there! (I now dare some anonymous reader to go and pretend they’re me).

  6. I’ll be there–probably with the wife and kid. Let me know if I can bring anything.

  7. Hello bloggers,

Don’t think I am going to make it to this party, but maybe one in the future. My wife and I are looking for housing in the area (anywhere from silver spring on out to wheaton I guess). What are the best ways for house hunting out there?

    Thanks!

  8. Aaron, are you seriously coming out? That would be fabulous.

Matt, I’ll be there. Are you giving out food assignments on the blog, or should I call Lori?

  9. I’ll attend if Ben S. agrees to engage in a very contentious, non-convergeant and disagreable debate on some standard controversial subject, which has to ultimately be resolved by an arm wrestle to determine who’s doctrinal kung fu is superior. End zone victory dance optional.

  10. Andrea, the little one, and I will most likely make it. How often does the Bloggernacle assemble a half mile from one’s abode? (And yet, we and the Evans are in different stakes.) Food assignment? What sort of shavings and tidbits do y’all like suspended in your Jello?

  11. Brandon (no. 7): I could give you a little insight on the housing market in suburban Maryland. Email me with a little information on what you are looking for (rent? buy? condo? starter home? graceful estate complete with stables and white fences straight out of the first scenes of Giant (you know, where Elizabeth Taylor’s character grew up)?)

For general information about the market, look at Daniela Deane’s articles and transcripts from her weekly “live discussions” at the Post’s website.

  12. Shawn,

    13. We believe that the variety with which one creates Jell-O salads is directly proportional to the level of glory attained after this life.

Telestial: green Jell-O and whipped cream

Terrestrial: green Jell-O + carrot shavings

    Celestial: green Jell-O + walnuts + raisins + cashews + cranberries

Note: The highest level of the Celestial kingdom can only be attained by those who have used Jell-O molds and have, somewhere throughout the course of their life, used Jell-O as an appetizer, side dish, between meals snack, dessert, and cold-and-flu remedy.

  13. So my sister truly is holier than me! I guess the proof is in the pudding, err… gelatinous salad! I will call her for a “celestial” recipe. Thanks, Kaimi.

  14. I didn’t see any recipe for jello + marshmallows + carrots… outer darkness?

  15. Brother Matt, and anyone who knows,
How is parking at the Shady Grove station around 8 AM? Metro’s website advises that most garages become full by 8, and that space is usually available at Grosvenor, but bypassing Shady Grove for Grosvenor would require extra time for the I-270 traffic that late in the morning. What experience or knowledge do you have of the Shady Grove parking availability?

  16. Karen, Karen, Karen. When will you learn? Never, ever, ever take Aaron seriously.

Shawn, you must live in the Derwood Ward, probably in Blueberry Hill? We wanted to move there, but alas we were substantially outbid on the only townhouse listed over the three days we spent house hunting. It’s good to know some bloggern live so close.

John, I seldom go to the metro station anymore but they built a huge parking garage last year that must have tripled their capacity. Before the new garage was built the parking spaces were gone by about 8:00 a.m. weekdays. Worst case scenario you could park at our townhouse and walk — it takes about 12 minutes.

  17. I’m there! Some of us surely will be attending the evening session at the LOC, then coming over afterward? Car pool anyone?

  18. Matt: we do live in the Derwood Ward/ Blueberry Hill area. And I think you and I have met. After we both helped a friend of yours from law school move into our ward, I gave you a ride home (I have moved said friend two times since then!)

John: I generally walk over, but I think you should be fine getting to Shady Grove around 8. I think even twenty minutes earlier would guarantee you a spot. I would definitely avoid trying to park at Grosvenor. We have a parking spot that someone could use as well.

  19. The British are coming!
(Well, one Brit, who will be either very happy or very sad depending on Tony Blair’s electoral position on Thursday.)

  20. Sister Mansfield and I will dine downtown between the afternoon and evening sessions. There are no specific plans yet. Would any care to join us? Any restaurant recommendation?

  21. For those who don’t live even remotely near D.C., or have a very slow connection, or the list goes on, can someone print some notes or commentary? I would like to know some major information or possibly new insights that were heard.

Please Help a Joseph Smith enthusiast get his dose of information!

  22. matt, sorry i could not make your party, i do not really check and see what you lds are doing any more
