My a capella group, The Longfellow Singers, will present “Sacred Harmony: A Celebration of Worldwide Choral Traditions” this coming Sunday as a benefit concert for the victims of the recent southeast Asia tsunami. We will be singing selections from Renaissance-era Europe as well as folk songs and hymns from Africa, Korea, New Zealand and the United States. The music is absolutely gorgeous, if I do say so myself. Although a collection will be taken, it is a free concert and there is absolutely no obligation to make a donation of any kind. So, if you will be in the Boston area this weekend, come hear me sing!!

I’ve heard them sing on several occasions, and the music truly is beautiful. Sadly, I’ll miss this particular performance due to a trip. Go Melissa and friends!
P.S. I doubt this post by Melissa will elicit the type of animated discussion that “Are Powerful Women at a Disadvantage?” did…
As selector of the music for this concert, i can attest that it will be great! A lot of Tudor-era English stuff (Byrd, Gibbons, Tallis, etc.), some continental as well (Palestrina, Victoria), as well as some more modern, non-crappy American songs. A selection from Rachmaninov’s all-night vigil, a spiritual or two, a few folk songs. The venue is a nice smaller stone church that is much more resonant than the Longfellow chapel.
Sorry, no Mack Wilberg…
Sacred art music is my favorite, and I very much wish I could be there. It sounds terrific. Good luck!
“much more resonant than the Longfellow chapel.”
Doesn’t that describe about 80% of the buildings in Cambridge?
;)
Wish I could be there Melissa. Break a leg!
