Karen Hall blogs the convention, in true New York Post style. She’s got a Page Six section (with boldface names like Don King and Brooks & Dunn), a bit of politics, and not-one-but-two different discussions of possible public nudity.
With Karen’s post, I think BCC has solidified its status as the New York Post of the bloggernacle (does that mean that Steve Evans is the bloggernacle Rupert Murdoch?). After all, how often can you go to any other Mormon group blog and read a sentence starting out “If I wanted to rip off my dress . . . “?
:) And the New York Times would be … ?
By the way, Kristine and Julie, my comment “how often can you go to any other Mormon group blog and read a sentence starting out ‘If I wanted to rip off my dress . . . ‘?” is not intended to be any criticism or suggestion that we need more such posts around here. :) And that goes double for you, Nate. Step away from the pinafore . . .
After watching “Outfoxed” a few weeks ago, I think I can safely say that I bear little resemblance to Rupert Murdoch. For one, he is rich. For another, he actually runs an empire. I am poor, and do little to control/nurture the Bloggernacle.
As for comparing BCC to the Post, I like the idea that we’ve reached their level in headlines and sensationalist writing. However, I don’t think we share much else…
Wow, that was an interesting way to link my post Kaimi…thanks for highlighting the nudity. For those scared to hit the link, let me assure you that I kept my clothes on at all times in New York…for all staid T&S readers, let me assure you, I do not condone public nudity…
And Steve, do I need to offer some kind of apology to you? We never really decided that BCC would be the snarky blog, I just kind of occasionally hijack it for my own purposes. I will humbly accept reprimands from our fearless yet poor leader. And also promise to keep my clothes on at all times.
Karen,
Sorry to focus so much on the nudity — your final point was about nudity (a theme you had already mentioned), so I guess that’s that take home point I left with. (Besides, don’t you realize that sex sells? I’ll leave it to Steve to verify, but I’ll bet that BCC traffic jumped as legions of T & S readers wandered over to read about the nudity.)
But yes, I guess I didn’t make clear enough in the link, your post does have substance and is not all about nudity. Sorry if I overemphasized the sensationalist aspects — and I guess it’s my fault if, from now on, T & S readers remember you as “Karen Hall, that woman who writes about nudity.”
Yeah Kaimi, thanks, but no need to apologize. I almost wrote in my last comment “I do not condone public nudity unless I find it entertaining…” then decided to edit at the last minute. I really probably deserve whatever slings and arrows I get! :o)
You guys are all crazy. I think Karen’s post is great! Snarkiness is always welcome in our part of the Bloggernacle (unless it offends me, in which case I’ll ban you and delete the comment). Don’t worry about hijacking BCC for your own purposes, either — all of BCC’s posters do that!! In fact, that’s the closest definition of BCC’s purpose — to satisfy the whims of its posters.
Kaimi, a nod from T&S is always welcome — but unfortunately it’s not the magic potion for site hits that you might think. The most hits we received in the last month came on August 17th (not surprisingly, the date I posted about breast implants, sparking a slough of perverts to visit).
Stay tuned y’all, by the way, for my upcoming BCC report on laser eye surgery. Tentative titles: “Seeing through a glass, darkly” and “Why low-cost surgery may not be the best option.”
