  1. This is incontrovertible proof that the church is true. What more do we need? It’s a miracle in the blogosphere; a latter-day loaves-and-fishes.

    :)

Or, more likely, a technical error of some sort in the TTLB tracking system.

  2. Gordon: I saw the same thing the other day…cept the blog-ring was at #2. It def. seems fishy.

I’m sure we will know soon though…Instapundit is unlikely to take this sitting down.

  3. Hmm, I think I have figured out the bug. Take a look at the blog “details” to see who is linking it. The top of the list (of 3000 linkers) begins:

    “http://www.the-lollipop.net/blog links to http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=MTblog
    http://blackfive.blogs.com/ links to http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=MiliBlogs
    http://www.villasantiago.com/ links to http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=vablog
    http://homepage.mac.com/samchops/B733177502/ links to http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=blogphiles
    http://soldiersparadise.blogspot.com/ links to http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=MiliBlogs
    http://www.omni-curious.com/ links to http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=talkback
    http://iddybud.blogspot.com/ links to http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=Dean4America

Note that none of these actually link to the LDS blog ring — they just link to ringsurf.com (which hosts the LDS blog ring, as well as hundreds of other blog rings). It appears that LDS-blogs is getting credit on the TTLB counter for every blog that links to any blog-ring run by http://www.ringsurf.com .

I would expect the bear to fix that at some point soon.

  4. My understanding is that TTLB gives placment based on top-level domains. This means it’s not the LDS Blogring that ousted Instapundit, but all the rings on ringsurf.com collectively.

  5. Whoever entered Latter-Day Blogs into TTLB apparently misunderstood either what Latter-Day Blogs is or the purpose of TTLB. LDB is a webring page, not a blog. TTLB is for blogs, not webrings.

Kaimi has the correct reason for LDB’s placement on TTLB, though. As LDB is the only erroneously-entered webring on TTLB, all blogs that are part of webrings appear to link to LDB’s domain, since the domain name for all webrings is the same.

If, after LDB is removed, someone creates an entry for the ‘Pervy Hobbit Fanciers’ webring (assuming there is such a thing) in TTLB, it will instantly attain the same rank that LDB currently holds. Thus, we cannot place any significance on the fact that LDB currently holds that spot, lest we accidentally imply that the pervy hobbit fanciers are somehow also divinely endorsed. ;)

  6. “Pervy”? Didn’t know that was a word. I kind of like it, and will now attempt to incorporate it into my lexicon.

  7. Indeed-
pervy is THE new word all the cool kids are saying.

At least it will be soon

  8. The ‘pervy hobbit fancier’ line comes from a set of ‘Very Secret Diaries’ of various Lord of the Rings characters that were originally posted on a LiveJournal. They’re rather funny, and that phrase in particular just stuck with me.
